“Prayer omnia vincit”
For those that are familiar with the singing competition show, “The Voice” they may know last night’s broadcast had several Oklahomians on the broadcast, included celebrity judge, Blake Shelton. One of the singers shared, “Oklahoma is a praying state,” and how they are strong and will get through the tornado devastation. Within my work I have known the loss and suffering of families for over 2 decades. Today a person told me, “I don’t know how you do it. This world has too much suffering in it. You must have a heart of steel.” Maybe the look in my own eyes gave away the truth. The person apologized immediately saying, “Oh my God! You know someone that died yesterday don’t you? I am sorry. I assumed because of what you do you are immune to loss and heartache.”
Assuming is often misused. If I can use my voice for anything today, for any day, it will be to ask God to only use it for good. Good of prayer, good of hope, care, comfort and faith and even though loss, death and destruction has occurred once again, a way will be found for Oklahoma to feel love, care and prayers being sent. Sometimes things can seem too overwhelming, painful or devastating to know where to start. Or why to even bother. And further yet, if doing something will ever make a difference. When I am looking at who to start with to say, “Come on God, get them to help!” I know all I have to do is look in the mirror and I see a little kid with their first cowboy hat on. A special hat from from a kind family in Oklahoma who opened up their home to me when I was a child. Oklahoma’s state motto is “Labor omnia vincit,” Latin for “labor conquers all things.” Thought given the events that have unfolded it would be okay to say, “Prayer omnia vincit,” “Prayer conquers, (can overcome), all things.”

“God hold Oklahoma dear”
God hold Oklahoma dear
they have dealt with so much fear.
The tornado hit them hard
blew towns and homes up just like cards.
Children and families ripped apart
they are hurting so bad and don’t know where to start.
For the night has fallen
and angels are calling.
Help them now and forever more
as their heartache is felt deep within the core.
We can make a difference by saying prayers
while letting them feel lots of cares.
It will take time and lots of healing
because the tornado sent the people of Oklahoma reeling.
God, show them the good you can do
and make the parts of Oklahoma destroyed, brand new.

“Annus Mirabilis”
I was with a group of 12 year olds yesterday at a children’s hospital. They all freely found words and ways to convey love, hope, happiness, fun, joy and care to add to their creative art projects for children with cancer. One particular girl, nearing completion, stared at her masterpiece with a determined look, knowing she wanted one more word to fill the empty space on top of her frame. At that time, we were called to collect our gifts and head to the oncology playroom. The youngster looked at me and asked, “What word would be a good idea to put here?” while her little finger outstretched to the open area. Others preparing for the next visit stage shouted out words. Each time the artist said, “I wrote that one on already. See?” The child gave me a “Hello?!” and asked again, noticing time was running out to finish her project. I asked, “What do you think of faith?” A big smile came on her face. Her hand, which never let go of the colorful art equipment, went to add the finishing touch. Proud as can be she held up the finished decorative present and said, “That was it! Thank you!” While the hospital representative ushered us across the courtyard, I silently thought, “Life has many interesting mysteries.” Which given the importance of science in a hospital, reminded me of someone, who combines the words “True art, science and the mysterious,” and is heralded as a genius. His name came up again today. So here are a few words written on and from the famous Albert Einstein. Who knows, maybe the next one is in the group from the hospital visit.
“Born in 1879, Albert Einstein developed the special and general theories of relativity. As a child, Einstein revealed an extraordinary curiosity for understanding the mysteries of science (started only at age 10/11). Einstein is generally considered the most influential physicist of the 20th century.
In 1905, while working as a patent clerk in Bern, Switzerland, Einstein had what came to be known as his ‘Annus Mirabilis’ — or ‘miracle year’. It was during this time that the young physicist obtained his Doctorate degree and published four of his most influential research papers, including the Special Theory of Relativity. In that, the now world famous equation ‘e = mc2′ unlocked mysteries of the Universe theretofore unknown.
Ten years later, in 1915, Einstein completed his General Theory of Relativity and in 1921 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. It also launched him to international superstardom and his name became a household word synonymous with genius all over the world. Recognized as TIME magazine’s “Person of the Century” in 1999, Einstein’s intellect, coupled his strong passion for social justice, left the world with infinite knowledge and pioneering moral leadership.”
And from the man himself, ‘The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.”
“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead:his eyes are closed,”
Albert Einstein.
“Annus Mirabilis” to you all.

“Let your heart…”
“Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen carefully,” Littlefoot’s mother, Land Before Time.
And if you are interested, if you listen even more carefully, you can hear the whisper of another’s heart, especially a child’s.

“Seeing”
Today’s story has so many wonderful aspects. It will become part of many entries. What a white dove and a hawk can lead to on a very early morning run before a busy work day….
The title of this entry, and the picture, (happened to meet the artist today–it was some white dove and hawk
that started the morning), sums this all up. Much more to come.
